Overview

Our Nursery

Our environment is crucial to offering appropriate challenges through planned, purposeful play.

Introduction

Why choose us?

At Highbury Nursery we focus on a child-centred environment that inspires and nurtures a secure and valued, unique individual. Forging early and strong partnerships ensures a 2-way flow of information between nursery and home. Important information is continuously shared about the child’s day, achievements and interests verbally and through our Famly app. We actively encourage families to share information about their child at home and their interests to further support their journey through nursery. When children move to another room or on to school, we ensure smooth transitions for the child and family. As a community nursery, parent participation is essential for our sense of community and for families to feel a part of their child’s journey and nursery life. This may be by joining us for an event, sharing a cultural celebration, being a part of our management committee or using a skill to support our nursery. Our nursery is proud to have been awarded Millie’s Mark, meaning that all of our staff working directly with the children are Paediatric First Aid trained by our in-house qualified First Aid Instructor (please see below for more information). Makaton is an integral part of the way we communicate with our little ones and this signing system is used throughout the nursery to support language and communication, build self-esteem and ease frustration with the support of our nursery Makaton Ambassadors.

Our fantastic

Garden

The children have free access to the garden at all times in any weather, this includes snow and rain. We ask that the children wear appropriate clothes to enable this. For example, we ask for 3 layers of clothes in the winter, with wellies in the rain. The play experience in all the weathers gives deeper levels of learning following the child’s own interests, not dictated by time slots.

The safe and secure outdoor environment allows children to develop a sense of space and spatial awareness as well as the natural environment, growing plants and seeing the world around them allowing them time to ask questions, have discussions, observe and make suggestions.
