Food & Nutrition

Food and nutrition is an essential part of your child's development. At nursery, our chef prepares homemade meals for a balanced diet suitable for your child's age, whilst following children's individual dietary requirement

Fostering good

Eating Habits

At Highbury Nursery, we understand the vital role that balanced nutrition plays in a child’s development and overall well-being. Our food and nutrition program is designed to provide children with delicious, wholesome meals that support their physical and cognitive growth. We prioritise fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and our menus are carefully crafted to meet the dietary needs of young children while introducing them to a variety of healthy foods. We aim to nurture a lifelong appreciation for nutritious food by fostering good eating habits early on.

Where we eat

The Basement

Our 2 dining rooms are in our basement area and primarily used for the children to eat and socialise. We also use it for other activities during the day such as yoga, science groups and cooking activities. We have a buffet style breakfast time for the children who arrive between 8-9am.

Meal times are relaxing, social, and fun times for the children. Wonderful discussions happen during this time and the children and Practitioners interact discussing the food they are eating to promote healthy lifestyles. Children also brush their teeth after their main meal at nursery, with adults promoting good standards of teeth brushing, using songs and actions and Makaton signing.

Our Menus

Our summer and winter menus are on a 3 weeks rotation and are available to view below. The menu follows NHS guidance and promotes a healthy, balanced diet for all ages. All meals are prepared onsite by our chef and we tailor our menu to meet specific needs of the children such as allergies and dietary requirements. We have participated in the Islington Healthy Early Years project which we have successfully completed.
